Duster Run
Six stretches of back country, flown low and flown fast. The tank is draining the whole way down, and the only fuel out here is in the gas cans somebody left sitting in the field. Hit them or walk home.
⌨️ This one may play better with a keyboard — a desktop, a laptop, or a tablet with one attached. It plays fine on a touchscreen — drag the strip beside the field to fly in any direction, and the buttons shoot and drop — though the keys leave you a little less to juggle while the ground is coming up.
📱 Turn your phone sideways — the run is a wide one, and sideways it takes the whole screen.
- Arrow keys or
WASDfly.Spaceshoots straight ahead,X(or.) drops dust,Cdrops water.Drag up and down on the strip beside the field to fly — it is off to the side so your thumb is never over the plane. The buttons shoot, drop dust and drop water. - Your shot flies flat and your dust falls forward and down. Anything in the air in front of you wants the shot; anything standing on the ground is usually easier dusted — though see the next line about the cans.
- The tank never stops draining. A gas can puts about a fifth of a tank back — but only if you hit it, so roughly three cans in five is break-even. Miss more than that for long and you are gliding — you will hear the engine quit.
- Either weapon will take a can. Dust is the sure way — drop it short and let it fall. A flat shot works too, but only from down in the last few feet above the dirt, which is a fine way to get one can and lose the plane.
- Rockets sit in the field until you come close, then climb. Buzzards ride the wind. Embers off a field burn cannot be shot at all — you can only fly around them.
- You carry one tank of water, and it fills back up at the start of every stretch. It falls as a wide curtain rather than a single drop. Somewhere in each stretch a brush pile is burning — put it out and it is worth 250, and nothing but water will do it.
- Water is also the one answer to an ember. So on the Burn-Off you have a choice to make: spend the load on the brush pile for the points, or carry it and keep one ember you get to say no to. You cannot do both.
- Down the Holler a stray goose comes through now and then — on his own, no formation and no bonus for him. There is always a way past without shooting, but in a passage that narrow you had better decide which side early.
- A skein of geese comes the other way, in a V, and you will hear them before you see them. Go over, go under, or shoot a hole in it — but the V is wider than you think, and deciding late is deciding wrong.
- ⭐ Stars are for Premium members. One or two hang about each stretch, always off the line you would fly anyway — down in a hollow or up under the roof. Fly through one to take it. They are kept between runs, and going down does not bring back one you already had.
- Members spend them on the intro screen before flying: extra water, half the buzzards, or a reserve tank that cuts in the moment you run dry. What you take is carried by that run and used up by it. Every stretch and every lap is free either way — stars are a leg-up, not the game.
- Out in the real back forty a buzzard is protected, and he is cleaning up after you — you leave him be. A goose has a season, a license and a limit, and this is none of them. In here they are just something in your way.
- Bring down every bird in one skein and there is a bonus on top, 100 a bird — near enough double what the birds themselves were worth. Let one reach the back of the field and it takes the bonus with it, so it is worth starting early.
- Touching the ground, the ceiling, or anything that is not a bullet ends the plane. You get three.
- Every stretch has two windsocks planted in it. Pass one and it lifts — that is where you pick up again if you go down, so you never replay a whole stretch.
- Reach the barn at the end of the sixth stretch and dust it. Then the country starts over, faster and thirstier, and your score keeps climbing.
- The engine runs the whole time she does. 🎧 in the corner is a pair of ear plugs — they start in, so the engine is hushed until you take them out.
- 🎯 Premium members get five more paint jobs, a stretch to practice on, ⭐ stars and what they buy, and their best run synced across devices.
